Hi,
I am having trouble locating the actual failing 8GB harddisk in my Tecra 8000. This Laptop has a CDROM in the Select Bay. I can remove that and see the brand. Also have an external floppy.

How do I locate the hard disk to see mfg and model?
Can WIN98 SE tell me model info? Cannot see that info with WIN98 SYSTEM INFO.

How can I open the Laptop to see this hard drive. The Owners manual is not telling me.

Thanks, Dave_s

    Al, thanks for info.
I just had one DIMM location stop working two weeks ago.
Now is operating OK with 128MB in remaining one DIMM oscket.
These hard disk errors are occuring often.

Since can be either disk or mobo, where can I d/l free mobo
diagonstic test?

Is it difficult to swap the hard dsik in this Toshiba TEcra 8000? I'd l;ike to try it if Laptop has a bad mobo anyway.
Can I d/l info to remove hard dsik?

    Thanks, Dave_s

Often during boot, error message occurs early during POSt, saying
one or more hard disks have developed serious errors and must run WIN98SE Scandisk. I run from real windows, not SAFE.

I ran Scandisk using thorough test and it finds zero errors on the tgwo logical drives, C and D.

Then runs for a day or so OK, then at boot, the message reoccurs.

How can I fix this ?

Thank you, Dave_S

Your disk is probably dying. You could identify the make and model of
the disk and d/l a test utility from the manufacturer's website and
run it. (It doesn't write on your data.)
Plan on getting a new disk. If you do *before* this one dies you can,
with some help, reimage your system instead of reinstalling. A local
PC shop will do this for the cost of a couple hours labor. There is a small chance it's the mobo.
