Because, the thing is, formatting provides a clean base on which to
install a system. So, if you have any problems, it is much easier to
diagnose. Plus the fact, a newly formatted PC will easily perform over
a dated old install. And generally, most peoples problems are, I have a
virus - how do I get rid of it? My PC is full of spyware ! My PC is
full of old applications with redudant files ! I have low disk space
and I am not using any of the software on the PC! ..... you get the
idea, formatting really does help.

Dude, maybe you should check the recent lawsuits, breaching copyright
law can induce fines of well over £100,000+ . So in my eyes - not a
risk worth taking. Especially since most companies are making major
examples of these people commiting crimes. Remember the 8 yr old kid
downloading nursery rhymes - his parents got fined £122,000 per song !

I suppose it comes down to a matter of preference, if you want a slow
system with all your old apps, that will be especially prone to faults,
then go ahead - attempt a migration. But if you listen to anyone with
sense, all new systems deserve a new operating system.
