Hello all, and thanks.
I plan on getting a Dell XPS 710, an nVidia GTX8800 w/768MB, and a 20"
monitor.
I have yet to decide on my CPY.
The options are:
Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB)
Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor E6700 (4MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1066 FSB)
Intel® Core?2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)
Intel® Core?2 Duo processor E6320 (4MB L2 Cache,1.86GHz,1066 FSB)
Intel® Core?2 Duo processor E6420 (4MB L2 Cache,2.13GHz,1066 FSB)
I do plan on doing some gaming and websurfing and want the absolute
best graphics and no latency with regard to CPU, memory or graphics.
I always heard the quad cores are awesome. Should I get?
I really dont know much about these CPUs nowadays. I have had Pentium
for quite a while.
Any input, feedback, or help would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks!!
I run Seti@home so for me, it would be a quad core hands down.
Running Windows? Go Quad core. Windows needs every last once of power it can
get.
Plan for the future (ie going to keep this awhile?) -> quad core
Beyond that tho, get enough memory. No less than 2 gig.
I cant speak much to video but I'm kinda partial to ATI on Windows but
nVidia on Linux (cuz ATI never ever fully works on Linux) and make sure its
a PCI-E interface (pci express) your board will have pcie slots wont it?
Chipset matters, but you'll be ok because if it supports the Quad Core it'll
be very very recent (and thus most likely have a x16 pcie slot).
Drives: SATA, Gen2 if you can.
Also, dont skimp on a power supply, get a good hefty hi quality one rated
at, say, at least 350 Watts, preferably 400 or more. Your entire system
depends on quality power. Junk owqer and the whle system slows down and
gets very unstable (ie retrys up the ying yang, cards dont come up properly
and on and on)
That should about do it.
Have fun
Eric
