Re: Server 500

Teriffic reply Rick, you read my story execently. Very hard for me to get
across without mud maps, which I do well !!!!

Your Type 1 06H2772 caddy matches the FRU 06H8631 caddy, and that is
the "preferred" design because it works with a variety of wide SCSI
drives. So one option would be to obtain more of the "short" ID
cable, which is 06H7691 on the FRU 06H8631 caddy (probably hard to
do). Another option would be to pick up more of the "right" caddy
design, these were used in several IBM type-models, including the RS/
6000 7025-Fxx as well as several PC Server models. Still another
option would be to pick up working drive/caddy combinations. The
weight of one caddy is about 7 ounces, the weight of one drive/caddy
is about 1.75 pounds. Since I've got plenty of 9.1GB drive/caddy
combos, I could send 8 of them your way, but we both know that the
shipping cost is nasty.
I seem to recall that Moussa has a 7025-F50 with your name on it, if
it has 6 9.1GB SCSI drives in Bay C, you may have your desired parts
waiting for the right "road trip".

Unfortunately The 7025-F50 Moussa obtained had no hard drives, ex
government.

Rick, you gave me hope. My F50 has 12 off IBM DGHC 9,1 Gb drives in a
09L4251 caddy.
Unfortunately the caddy does not fit Server 500 and the hard drives appear
to get their ID and
power through the 68 pins as this is the only connection point on the
drives. Oh I wish SSA drives worked in a server 500.

Also, since the 06H7691 ID cable has 4 unused positions on the drive
end (10 pins on the caddy end, 8 wires), you might be able to use one
of the Type 2 ID cables by drilling out the plug and re-arranging the
wires, as needed. It might be more trouble than it's worth, of
course, depending on the cable configuration and how difficult it
would be to drill out the plug or break off an unneeded pin on the
hard drive connector.

Mentally I understand, but physically impossible for me to do.

Found a guy in the UK who has some of the 06H7691 leads for sale.
Sent him an email, fingers crossed.

Thanks
Basil
