Had no success running the .bat file on XP
Bob
Here an exact copy of the file I setup called ftpbff.bat
open www7b.boulder.ibm.com
anonymous
farl7@xxxxxxxxxxx
binary
prompt
cd aix/fixes/pkgs/qhmsn
get 160.bff "C:\AIXFIX"
bye
On XP machine Start/Run C:\ftpbff.bat
The black command window opens for a milli second and that is all.
Because I don't have any experience with online ftp and because I'm working on an XP-machine, I thought let's give it a try.
(Pardon the Dutch XP, but you'll get the drift no doubt)
Here's what I did:
I made an AIXFIX directory and an ftpbff.txt scriptfile in C:\
Result of a "dir /ogne"-command
Het volume in station C heeft geen naam.
Het volumenummer is C046-3F55
Map van C:\

8 map(pen) 81.288.376.320 bytes beschikbaar
These are the contents of the scriptfile ftpbff.txt :

farl7@xxxxxxxxxxx
binary
prompt
cd aix/fixes/pkgs/qhmsn
get 159.bff
get 160.bff
bye
Notice that the "open" command is missing. I found out (the hard way) that including this command in the scriptfile confuses ftp; somehow it doesn't parse the logon correctly.
Next I opened an XP-"DOS-box" with Start>Run>cmd
changed to C:\AIXFIX and entered the ftp-command as shown below in the listing of the DOS-box:

So this setup seems to work, apart from the fact that the two files seem to be unavailable.
Funny thing is, that Ünal's link
http://www7b.boulder.ibm.com/aix/fixes/pkgs/qhmsn/
worked yesterday, but responds with a "403 Forbidden" today.
Maybe that's why the files aren't available (to me)?
Anyway, to further automate the download, you could make a .bat or .cmd file containing the ftp-command.
e.g. xfixdwn.bat containing :
C:
cd\aixfix
ftp -s:c:\ftpbff.txt www7b.boulder.ibm.com
Works like a charm.
PS I tried this (ftp in stead of http) and it turned out empty
ftp://www7b.boulder.ibm.com/aix/fixes/pkgs/qhmsn/
downloading index.html from
ftp://www7b.boulder.ibm.com/aix/fixes/pkgs/c62m4/
with the above setup worked flawless, so the setup is good.
