Your AIX 5.2 system install is clearly a lot larger than my AIX 4.3.3
install, which will fit on a single 4.5GB hard drive (but needs a
9.1GB hard drive so there's enough space on rootvg for the maintenance
level 11 updates and my usual mix of program products). I'm assuming
that your SSA drives are also 9.1GB, so you'd need a 36.4GB SCSI drive
to put your system install on a single drive. I agree that it is best
to keep rootvg on your SCSI drive(s), I set up each set of 6 SSA
drives as a 5-drive SSA array (yielding 36.4 of usable space with
9.1GB drives) plus a hot spare. You can even do this when all 3 drive
bays are filled with SSA drives, you simply need to use one of the
upper media bays for a large SCSI disk - in a configuration like this,
you'd have from left to right: SCSI hard drive, tape drive, CD-ROM
drive, floppy drive.
