Hi Pete, Moussa, and GANG !

Well, this is about as embarrassing as it gets........

I was doing some testing on my VP for the ibm.classic newsgroup. Long story
short, the reason the computer would not allow me to "change" the IDE HDD,
is because the cable was pulled out of the IDE connector on the motherboard.

I'm sure Master Sgt. Knight will appreciate this:

Sir, NO EXCUSE SIR !

I had installed about 5 or more drives in an attempt to answer a question,
and I guess the connection on the motherboard had finally had enough of my
fiddling, and semi-pulled out.

Moussa's VP diag disk revealed that no HDD was attached. Using my best Bruce
Willis smirk, I decided to open both blind eyes, and cast my snickering know
it all look at the actual hardware.

Ahem ( as Don Peter would say ).

Let's just say, this was another in a long list of life's lessons.

Although I did find something else out because of this, which will actually
answer one of the main questions a poster had concerning this issue, I
should have known better.

Thanks for the help, and I will begin taking my dementia pills again. Or is
that anti-dementia ¿

Hi Bob......

When I first entered electronics school at Keesler AFB in Mississippi
a wondrous long time ago, the first thing they taught me about
troubleshooting was to look for the most obvious reason
first...........a lesson well-learned and disregarded about a zillion
times by me and many many others :-)

Also back in those days when Electronic Fundamentals was really
fundamental, they would say that if you can't find the problem, go to
the circuit breaker that keeps popping and hold it in tightly.....and
look for the smoking black wire! Fortunately some genius came along
and designed a breaker that wouldn't work that way.....or we would
have burned up a lot more airplanes that we did. (When I was
stationed at Ramstein, I personally set 3 airplanes on fire in the
short period of about 6 weeks......my commander was glad to see me
return to the States.)

Chalk it up to a brain fart.....they happen often in advancing
age.....
