I just did one on an in-warranty HP small form factor machine -
battery swelled and split and alkaline juice from it ate a few chip
components and traces off - got a new mobo from HP rather than just
replacinga $2 battery - glad I did before heading to the site. Had to
include details with the return board though so they wouldnt reject it
as EU damage.
I've seen many of them eat through their own case usually on the
exposed side - last year I replaced 84 batteries in customer machines.
Had one 286 machine with a soldered on nicad as well, hadnt done one
of those in years - back in the mid/late 90's I was doing 3-4 a week.
