Hi!
The last NIB 9533s were sold in Germany by some electronic
market along with a PS/1 13" monitor that was considered "energy
friendly", since it had a rudimentary power management.
I dimly remember someone here saying that it was possible to buy a PS/
2 E new in the US as late as 1997. (?) In any case, I saw one for the
first time while working part time in a computer store sometime in
1996. I had no idea what it was, although I do remember the store
owner telling me that the machine's owner had never come to pick it
up. It was missing the front door.
Had I known what it was, I probably would have tried to acquire it.
There was also a Model 55SX, with a big burn mark up the side of the
case with all the vent holes. (I never did figure that one out...it
worked but had clearly been near something extremely hot. The paint
was permanently brown and there was evidence of a fire inside.)
They also suffer the "bad caps symptom" and there are
no repair guide of any sort. Mine is a typical unit. I'm not using it
anymore.
Louis sent me back to Illinois with one, in many pieces. I don't think
I got a power supply.
He didn't think it could be put back together and expected to work.
I'm not so that it couldn't be re-assembled, if I took the time and
worked carefully. :-) I still wouldn't have a power supply (maybe) and
for all I know it might not even work. So I guess it will stay
disassembled unless I get really bored one day.
William
