Other things to be added, explained or at least considered:
1. The Intel Pro/100+ Evilnet works out of the box on Windows 98. At
one point I had a "!" in Device Manager that said the Intel network
adapter had not been assigned an interrupt by the BIOS. It seemed to
work anyway. In any case, the "!" is gone now...leaving only one issue
in Device Manager. That is a "!" for the Advanced Power Management
hardware. I don't care--the monitor goes to sleep when it should.
Requesting System Standby does not work--Windows says that a program
or device driver won't allow it. Auto power-off after shutdown works
fine.
2. Sound works as well. The mixer control reports a Crystal Mixer with
MMX Technology as the sound device.
3. To make the video work, I had to do nothing more than unpack the
drivers and install them. I did not have to switch anything back to
"standard VGA". Windows did identify the adapter as a PCI VGA adapter,
but the driver installation worked anyway. (I just had to try it.)
I don't know about enabling DMA for the Microdrive from the Win98
Device Mangler. The high performance options are enabled in NetVista
System Setup. I will find out.
