I know this is somewhat off topic but I know you guys are not "pure".
I got a Dell laptop cheap on Ebay but when I power it up I am at an
"ubutu?" screen asking for ID/password that I don't have. I figured I
would reload it but there is no "media" on this machine and no easy
place to plug anything in that I can see. How do I start?
I have a SCSI PCMCIA card but I doubt this thing is smart enough to
boot from it. I have a network but I am not sure how to do anything
with that either. No diskette.
I tried hollering in the modem port but it petends it can't hear me.
Is this just a night light?
Model? ... or System Service Tag Number?

Its a LS400 H400ST. I have done a bit of loooking and it seems they
have an external CD drive I need to get. I had no joy with the SCSI
drive

An external CDROM connected via USB should work (It's been a while since I've seen one of those but I seem to recall they would boot from the USB port as long as the BIOS is setup correctly.).
