OT: Thinkpad 760XD for sale

A bit off-topic, but as I was preparing the following Thinkpad 760XD for sale, it occurred to me that perhaps one of my esteemed group members might want to buy it outright, without fiddling with eBay. Here's what I might put up for auction:

IBM Thinkpad 760XD
Type-Model 9546-U9E
166MHz Pentium w/MMX
1024x768 12-inch LCD
80MB RAM
7.5GB Hard Drive
8X CD-ROM
"Good" Battery
BIOS Level HXED60WW, 12/09/99
3COM Fast EtherLink 3C574-TX
External 1.44MB floppy

I was also planning to offer a choice of power supplies, either the "light" 35W FRU 85G6735 (better for traveling) or the "heavy" 50W FRU 84G4531. I have loaded Windows 98 Second Edition on the hard drive, along with the appropriate Thinkpad drivers for video, audio, MWave modem, and the battery and configuration utilities.

You might wonder, "How good is the battery?" Well, it charges to 100% on the LCD panel, and I can run Scandisk in thorough mode on battery power for 10 minutes before it has to be hooked back up to the AC power. During the Scandisk run, I kept the screen lit and the Ethernet plugged in along with near constant hard disk activity, so there was a steady power draw. That's not a lot of time, of course, but the battery is quite old so it's amazing that it works as well as it does.

I was planning to set the Buy-It-Now price at $75 (US Dollars), and CSIPH "regulars" get their usual discounted rate (if you're a "regular" and have never bought from me before, just e-mail me - ekblaw (at) juno (dot) com and I'll tell you the discounted price).

The weight of the parts with no packing is 8 pounds 8.5 ounces with the 85G6735 power supply, and 9 pounds 5.5 ounces with the 84G4531 power supply, so the shipping weights will be at least 10 and 11 pounds, respectively, with 11 and 12 being more likely. I'm in zip code 13850 (Vestal, NY USA), so you can figure the Priority Mail or Parcel Post rates for US residents at www.usps.com -- the international shipping rates for a box this heavy are brutal ($53.01 for Priority Mail International to the United Kingdom, for example, since it will not fit in one of the flat rate boxes).

I'll be preparing several more TP-760XDs and TP-760ELs for sale over the next few weeks, so if you want a "custom order", write to me and I'll try to oblige.
