I have 2 identical Exabyte 8200s.....and cannot get either of them set

In theory (and you know what that means!), the parameters for the
8200s should match the defaults for the IBM 7208-001. So you could
hook up the 7208 again, then do the "Show/change characteristics..."
bit in the SMIT devices section to see what IBM picks, and put those
same values in for the 8200s once you've swapped devices.
I *think* (danger!, again) that the settings you will need to change
are to make the blocksize 0 (variable blocksize), leave the value for
the variable blocksize 0 as well, 0 for the 1st mode setting, 20 for
the 2nd mode setting. I could be wrong about those values, of course.

I think I have discovered the "source" of my problem. I have 2
identical EXB-8200 drives. The SCSI ID on #1 is set for 4......#2 is
set for 6. I can install either, and in SMIT it shows them as 0,0 and
also the type of drive is listed as "Other" rather than 2.3gb tape
drive.
Am I on the right track here?

More Info:
Tried both tape drives on my clone with an Adaptec 2940. The boot is
halted every time when the SCSI bus comes up.........
CT the Even More Confused
More and More Info:
1. Plugging either of the tape drives into the 2940 halts the boot,
regardless of:
a: Whether the tape drive is on or off.
b: Whether the terminator is installed or not.
Anything else I should try before consigning both these drives to a
dirt bath?
