Hmm... still having trouble. That, combined with the fact two floppy
drives exhibit the exact same behavior on this ThinkPad makes me think
the planar is faulty...

Weird... I left it plugged in for a while with the power on (with it
having a blank screen) for a few hours and came back to it, and power
cycled it and it came up fine... weird

I've got the Dock I, but it doesn't really seem to make much of a
difference with the 360CE. The LEDs all come on and you can see the
screen turning a darker black but that's all it does...

Sure enough, it fired up once and
only once. For some reason it gets fixed for one power cycle when I
reassemble it. Any ideas?
The Thinkpads that used the 4-pin power supplies had a fairly high
incidence of "power connector problems" -- usually due to the internal
connector "flexing free" of the power circuit board, so it would get
power if the power plug was only partially inserted, and then held
"just so". Attempts to fix this problem by re-soldering the connector
could make the situation better or worse -- I've got a Thinkpad 760XL
that won't get any power from the 4-pin connector after re-soldering,
for example. My "fix" for that 760XL is to run it from a Dock I
(machine type 3545) or Dock II (3546). If you have a Dock I/II, try to
run your 360CE from the dock and see if the situation improves.
As an aside, my Thinkpad 360C (20MB RAM, 340MB HD) is still running
strong, and receives power from either a Dock or the 4-pin power
supplies. I have one battery pack that still charges reliably, but the
battery life on a "full charge" is down to about 45 minutes (not bad
for such an old battery - manufactured in the 6th week of 1995). I've
also got a "bad" battery pack made in the 11th week of 1994, that one
will "pretend" to charge, but it never reaches "full" and has no run
capacity at all.
