L40SX with '163' error on boot.

I'm getting some of my PS/2 collection with OS/2 software installed
ready to ship to this year's Warpstock event and one of my L40SX
laptops is now giving a '163' on boot. I managed to get by this
using the Reference Diskette to reset the Date/Time but I suspect the
internal battery may be dying/dead. The laptop battery won't hold a
charge. Is there a fix for this? Are these machines user fixable?
