Re: Power Related? Not PS2

Hi!

Totally off topic but I am sure someone here knows the answer.
I am in Boston, MA. and looking to purchase a computer from the UK. I
understand the UK power/electric is 230 based? What is it in the USA and
will a UK machine work without burning up in the states?

The power in most (if not all) of the US is between 108-125 volts at 60
cycles per second...

That said, just about every computer power supply ever made can run on
either voltage. Some more modern ones run on a slightly wider range of
voltages and cycles per second.

If the computer in question can only run on 220/240 volts AC, then you can
probably buy a replacement power supply fairly inexpensively. If you were to
try to run the existing supply on 120 volts AC and it didn't support that,
any of a few things might happen--nothing, failure of a fuse or damage to
the supply.
