Re: 3.5 Floppy Drive won't accept disk change..OT/CT

Hi!

Yes indeed, this is a perplexing problem............

The diskette "changeline" signal is not working for some reason. Usually
there's a microswitch in the front of the diskette drive that is released
when you eject a disk. (Sometimes there are more...some for high density and
write protection detection purposes...) If the drive is dusty or dirty, you
could have this problem.

Software can also cause it. I just got done with a 55SX that wasn't
recognizing when a new floppy disk was inserted. No matter the disk, I'd get
the same directory as the first disk I'd used since starting the system. I
suspect the changeline signal wasn't working quite right on that drive, but
the problem went away when I told SMARTDRV to stop doing read caching on
that drive.

SMARTDRV <letter of floppy drive>- (minus) should do the trick and may solve
your problem.

A PS/2 might fare somewhat better with a broken changeline signal as their
diskette subsystems have a "media sense" ability that might report a change
when the changeline signal does not.

Right now I have created 8 directories (WFW1, WFW2, etc.....) and have
copied the contents of all 8 disks into these directories respectively.
Am getting ready to try SETUP in a few minutes.

You can also put all the files in one directory.
