Hi!
I am no expert on computer monitors. However, it sounds not like the
tube is going bad, but rather the color guns are losing their drive
voltages.
"Breathing", "pumping" and image instability might also indicate power
supply voltages running out of regulation. This could be caused by
simple capacitor failure.
I had a 15 inch Samsung Syncmaster that worked reasonably well until
one day it started to take an enormously *long* time to come up with a
picture. I suspect it died in much the same way your Eizo display is
doing now.
Another monitor--an NEC MultiSync 95 that I bought new--started having
severe problems with jumpy images or a total inability to sync up in
some modes. Its filter capacitors were bad. I replaced them and still
have the monitor to this day. It works very nicely.
I replaced the Samsung with an IBM 17 inch monitor (made by Philips for
IBM, it would appear) that's still running nicely today. This is rather
remarkable considering that the signal cable is badly shredded. The
only way to adjust the picture is with a cotton swab that has a rubber
insulater from a scrapped PSU jammed on to the other end. With care it
can be inserted where the blue knob was and the control turned/pushed
to select menu settings.
Do be careful if you elect to go inside and try repairs. Monitors can
really bite you.
William
