The lizzard is out. Mozilla 1.7.12 for AIX is available
"http://www.linkitup.de/ForAIX"
go to Mozilla directory.
Prerequesites same as Firefox. On the Firefox page are links for downloading the rpm.rte package manager and the needed RPMS from IBM's ftp server.
Comparison Mozilla vs. Firefox
Mozilla needs a lot more RAM. Rendering is little slower, the GUI is faster. If you like Mozilla's Mail and News client and plan running News and Browser at the same time, Mozilla is the first choice.
For low end machines with 128MB RAM or less Firefox gives much better surfing. With 256MB or more Mozilla will run smooth.
Performance is what you can expect from my 7012-370 and 7011-250.
One big advantage of Mozilla: it also runs on AIX 5.1. Firefox for AIX 4.3.3 does *not* run on AIX 5.1. Don't ask me why :-(
For other languages than the default en-US localization, you can install the ordinary Mozilla language packs just like on Linux or Windows.
In the system monitor "topas" or "monitor" Mozilla's main process "mozilla-bin" appears less memory consuming than Firefox. But it loads tons of shared libs. And this isn't assigned to the process.
Tip: RAM can be cleaned up with the command "slibclean" as root.
