BUT...
I just read through some old threads on this NG and two things stood
out.
First the BLASTER variable is required to get sound in a DOS box
window, so it won't help you yet.
Second, and this might be your problem, you should not install the
windows volume control. I would suggest uninstalling all of the
multi-media stuff from the control panel, rebooting your machine, and
then reinstall all of the multimedia stuff EXCEPT for the volume
control.

Of interest to you...
MDSP1012 Contains The latest reference drivers for Mwave. You must
install these in order, first the 3 disks, then the 3.1 upgrade, then
the 95 upgrade. Watch out for modem stuff if you have an Audiovation.
