I don't see it as a problem. In fact, I used a regular vacuum (a
1950s-something Electrolux canister vacuum) quite often to clean
electronic stuff. However, I find use of an air compressor vastly more
entertaining...instead of just sucking the dust away quietly, you can
evict it in no uncertain terms.
I suppose allergy sufferers might differ with me on the entertainment
value. But there is something to be said for the cloud of 15 years
worth of dust leaving...in a hurry.
There are people who would say that an air compressor will do
unspeakable evil to electronics and computer boards with moisture and
oil. I've seen no oil come out of my compressor and I keep the tank
drained on a regular basis. There have been no problems with using the
compressor to clean stuff.

One definite reason I switched was the amount of laser printers I found
myself cleaning out. Seemingly a regular vacuum can create a dust
explosion if it is sucking up laser printer toner...and that's a theory
I don't want to test.

I'm here in Illinois, where the climate can be quite humid or dry.
Either way it hasn't mattered yet...vacuum or air compressor.
