Let me explain this. When the adapter is in slot 5, the rear end (the
long blue plastic attachment) of the XGA-2 adapter pokes into the 9595
FDD cables. I was playing around with these drives: installing a
second one, removing it, testing the cable, swapping with a Bermuda
(the Model 80 FDD cables are just a little different and the only Model
80 drives I have are edge-connect). This FDD work is very difficult to
do with the XGA-2 adapter in slot 5, the only slot in which it belongs.

I believe you can minimize the XGA-2 length problems by removing the
plastic, but its gotta be done in a way that doesn't damage the card.

The system boots from the highest (lowest numbered) slot that has a
SCSI adapter and HDD. This computer (9595-1NG) came with Corvette in
slot 1, narrow cable to a piddly little drive in the lowermost bay. I
moved the narrow cable to a Spock in slot 2, removed the piddly drive,
installed a CD-ROM on the narrow cable; and installed 3 wide drives,
all hooked up to the Corvette in slot 1.

Now that the problems have been overcome and everything is set to go,
I'm in seventh heaven setting up this computer. "Nothing could be
finna ..." Presently DOS formatting the drives after LL formatting
them and defining logical drives. This is gonna be my second alpha
computer, running OS/2 Warp Server.
