I have a proposition: There are a bunch of us who care to do this (I think), so if we split up the work things should progress very quickly-- so what I propose--I would agree with that...therefore I have the whole thing on a hard disk in a computer located elsewhere.
To do a DVD-ROM might be interesting, especially given that it wouldn't fit on a current single-layer disc. It *should* fit on a dual layer disc though.
The PS/2 specific subset that Daniel Hamilton put together should fit on a regular old CD-R easily.
File Packs-- expand on what I was trying to do with the PS/2-specific html page. This would be zip files that contain ALL relevent files for a specific model. If there is duplication between models then the files would be duplicated across packs.
Such an example could be:
The 9595 File Pack would contain all the relevant files for the 9595 series. "Files" mean any kind of disk image, ADF of course. This could include all *standard* SCSI controllers, video adapters, network cards, etc. I this think would also be good for many in this group who have PS/2s-- but also have other favorites like the PC365, etc. Another type of Pack we could do would be specific to a type of hardware. Like a SCSI Pack that would contain all drivers, ROM upgrades, etc for the various SCSI controllers.
Another GREAT thing about doing this would be we'd be able to DROP all of the unneeded CRAP that's mixed in with all the good stuff in the PCCBBS archive. We'd just pull out what we need and it'd all be a spot that's easy to find. Eventually, we'd be able to completely forget about the PCCBBS archive altogether-- since it's a mess anyway... I suspect that it would be very easy to fit all of these File Packs on a single CD-ROM once they are made. The PS/2 files that I pulled out and grouped together are only around 100MB total.
I can create a folder for it on my ftp, and then a sub folder for each model type, like 9595, etc and people can start droping files there-- if anyone is interested. How about when we upload a file, we create a .txt file with the same name that has a description of what the files is, and what it's for. That way when we have it locally on our machines we can do a search and find it by the description! :)
Btw, the ftp address is: ftp://ps2supersite.homedns.org/filepacks
NOTICE: Full access is granted to anonymous users in this folder. You can delete files and folders. The other incoming folder is write-once access.
Any other ideas or suggestions???
