IBM fingerprint reader

I recently purchased an IBM T43 laptop with the integrated fingerprint
reader. The fingerprint reader worked well for about two days... now
it will rarely collect a "good image" and will usually tell me to
"slow down." I've done a little poking around on the IBM website
and found that the reader works by electrical conductivity. Also it
mentions that a dry skin will be difficult for the reader to detect
while oily skin will cause the "slow down" error message; this
makes sense when dealing with conductivity. My question is whether or
not anyone is familiar with difficulties of the fingerprint reader
working with certain types of skin. Since the reader was working and
it has only been a week I would assume the reader is still in working
order. Maybe my skin type falls outside one or two sigma of the
typical user. I've tried a few different things. I've tried
scanning at different times of the day, washing my hands then scanning,
just wiping them on a towel to get the oil off but nothing seems to
work. The only time the reader seems to be able to get a good image is
in the afternoon after I've been working all day and my hands are
(I'm assuming) dirty. Has anyone heard of IBM's new fingerprint
reader having difficulties like this? Or if you haven't do know of a
good group to post this to that may be better able to answer my
question?
Thanks,
Skoda
