i bought a brand-new 500gb Mybook essential and i tried to transfer some
files onto it and it took all the smaller video and movie files up to a
little over 1gb but it wouldnt accept the larger iso files that were
4gigs or over it says the files are too large for the destination and i
dont understand why or how to get past this

Sounds like the drive is using FAT32 format, which limits the maximum file size to 4GB. If you're running Windows [2k, XP or Vista], you can convert the format to NTFS which will lift the restriction. Look up "convert NTFS" in Windows help to find out how.
