OK, now I'm really upset. After Windows Update to SP2 it boots to a black
screen. Safe mode shows the SATA drive but says it is not formatted. It is
formatted NTFS, no system files at all on it, only pics and mp3's that I
want to save. I'm VERY frustrated. I know what I'm doing but this has me
baffled. The problem started when I tried to update my AVG antivirus
program to a newer version and it said there was a compatibility problem
with Roxio EZCD Creator. Link to Roxio's website listed a file to be
updated, clicked on file, said to reboot. After that black screen and no
Windows. Pulled the IDE drive and popped in another computer just to save
the files I wanted on the C: drive(IDE) Tried fixboot, fixmbr, XP bootdisk
to no avail. Finally formatted and reinstalled XP on IDE. TWICE.... Still
getting black screen reboot after updating to SP2. MBR virus? FDISK'ed the
IDE and reinstalled XP. Updated to SP2 and again black screen reboot. I'm
totally LOST....

Have a Dell 8300 with IDE primary drive and SATA secondary. IDE crashed,
reinstalled XP now SATA is not recognized in XP (it is in BIOS) I do not
want to format, fdisk, or anything of the sort. I have files I want to
save on the SATA drive. Any suggestions? Every once in a while when XP
boots it runs CHKDSK on the SATA drive so it knows it's there, but I
cannot see it from within XP...
No my other computers do not have SATA support, so I can't just pop it in
another one and save the files.
