If nothing else, it can verify the functionality of the floppy, the programs, and
the mice. Then you can try it all on the Linux box.
I'm confused.
This guy started this thread because his mouse had expired.
How's he going to "click" productively on anything?
We're not sure the mouse has "expired" yet, and until it's shown otherwise,
I will assume it's still functional.
As for troubleshooting steps, it's a simple process of elimination.
It's either the mouse, the wiring, the motherboard, or the OS.
Option 1 - The mouse or wiring is bad, and isn't sending signals to the motherboard.
- Try a different mouse.
Third sentence of first post: "I tried cleaning the mouse and also replacing the mouse
with another mouse lying around the house but it still doesn't work."
Was the second mouse a replacement for a defective first? He hasn't said.
- Try the mouse on a different system.
No friends with computers nearby, and I'm assuming the FreeDOS machine doesn't
have a mouse driver installed. Still waiting for info on a PS/2 port.
Option 2 - The motherboard is bad, and isn't processing the signals.
- Try the mouse on a different motherboard.
FreeDOS machine testing is hopefully in the works.
- Make sure the mouse port is active.
He tried Auto-detect and Enabled. Neither worked.
Option 3 - The OS is bad, and isn't recognizing the signals.
- Try bypassing the installed OS (hmmmm... perhaps a nice boot floppy with
some generic proven-to-work programs on it?)
