could be a prob with usb port. could be a prob with ps2-usb adaptor.
may even be a windows issue.
you could get the $30 thing, but there's no guarantee that it'll work
and I doubt the shop would refund you. so you could then resel it on
ebay if it doesn't help.
you could get an ergonomic usb keyb/mouse
I have foudn that some cheap ps2-usb adaptors don't work at all. Other
cheap ones do. The little red ones I have work very well. The slightly
larger green ones do not. I get "unrecognised device"
See, in my case, with the cheap ps2-usb adaptors, I never got a
situation where it worked and then stopped. I got cases where it wasn't
recognised at all.
Most ps2 devices won't work at all with the cheap ps2-usb devices. ps2
typically doesn't recognise usb. (though usb recognises ps2) so cheap
usb-ps2 works. though in your case it works then stops. So you must
have a special ps2 device that recognises usb.
Those 'beasts' with 2 ps2 ports and one usb port. They are detected by
windows with their own chunky driver. "human computer interface". So
it's not like plugging in a usb keyb and mouse. I don't recall being
able to get to the bios with it. It needed windows drivers.
