Maybe.
But think about (the real) Moore's law. Density means you can
put more transistors onto the same piece of silicon, and that
means increased functionality, ergo better performance. In that
respect, density is performance.
Suppose that I have 4 cores at unit die area as the baseline.
Now suppose that the next generation process can give me
faster transistors or denser one's, which is better?
Same 4 cores at same area that operate at 50% higher frequency,
or, 6 cores at same area that operate at same frequency as
before?
