What OS are you running. To see if you really NEED more memory(I'd bet you
do but still try this...) if you run NT,2000, or XP. Reboot your computer
(or don't...) load Task Manager. You really don't NEED to have this
running, Now, start all your apps and work out a normal "days" work. Of
course, you don't need to spend 8 hours doing stuff, just do a few normal
things. Then look in task manager, and see what your "peak" memory usage
was, its in the Performance Tab. Commit Charge box... note names could be
different, I'm just looking at my XP box.
I have 512megs, with what I do, I have never seen my peak memory usage go
about 512. In this case, adding memory would do NO good. Ok... there is
some debate, that if I was close to maxing at 512, it would be paging alot
to disk to "free up" memory. But I don't really know much about that...
just read about it.
