AFAIK, nope - default is "no region" and no play unless maybe the OEM mfr
has set it during Windows install... you have to select a region to get the
thing to work with the DVD region protection system.<gnash> Some
players/navigators will prompt you to set the region and allow the play to
happen; others will just gulp. The whole digital media playing experience
is getting very messy: I just found out last week that Microsoft has a
block in Windows Media Player which prevents the playing of a video file on
a mapped (local) network drive which needs an Indeo/Ligos codec - no error
or warning, just a black screen. You have to wonder... WHY?
You can check/set the region code from Windows Device Manager - there's a
DVD Region Tab for the DVD device.
