guess.
You either like turn based games you don't. To me A good game of HOMM
is much more fun than any AoE or Warcraft or Starcraft game.

...isn't it *too* much like HOMM3?
I've only played about an hour, so I can't judge the AI, but tactical
AI seems reasonable solid. I miss the hexes, though, squares may suit
3D graphics but seem more logical in battles. Combat seems basically
the same as HOMM3. Hero skills and spells have been changed, as have
creatures, but it's more like HOMM3 in a new coat. All the fundamental
gameplay rules from HOMM3 are back.
One thing that seems to have come from HOMM4 is that I think there is a
variety of hero upgrade paths. And some extra skills - for example,
inferno heroes have an skill that allows their forces a chance of doing
fire damage based on hero's spell power when they attack, at some cost
to hero's mana. If there are a lot like this they could make for
variety in individual hero tactics, i.e. you would pick an army to suit
it.
Overall, I'm thinking it's going to be a buy for those who loved HOMM3,
but an upgrade rather than a revolution.
Graphics are intense and will punish inadequate hardware as HOMM has
never before done. Lots of animations of fighting monsters if you like
that sort of thing.
