I didn't bother to read the manual right off anyway.

I don't know. But you can use the F1 city info screen, sort by name
or otherwise find the city name, then switch to the city.

My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Saves/Single/Auto

In the "auto" folder under the save games.

No, fighters only.

I don't know if a modified helicopter transport could do that. I'd
guess not, but does anyone know for sure?

Civ4 gunships only attack, like Civ2 helicopters. They don't carry
anything. But you can put gunships and marines on the same transport,
and both can do an amphibious attack (the marines with no penalty, the
gunships by landing, then moving out on land).
