Michael, not sure about USA, but it appears here that contracts end up
a bit more binding and less likely to be thrown out here than maybe in
Germany. I do understand what you are saying, but it is likely that
software gets interpreted as a SERVICE provided for ONE machine, and
purchased that way. I know in the article I posted, software company
got upset over activation code being transfered.
I do know software companies would want to have this fully in effect,
so people have to keep buying new versions of software and getting
people stuck with old versions. And totally doing this would NOT end
up causing software prices to drop. Prices are dictated by what
marketplace does, NOT this issues.
I do find the whole, "well if they stopped piracy, then software
companies would lower prices". Ok, let's say they magically stop
piracy completely. Now you have at least 25% more increase in people
who will buy software of a company. Okeee.... a company gets 25% more
demand for a product, so they will slash prices?
Someone tell me in what economic universe that increased demand
automatically translates into DECREASED prices. It doesn't. This
being said, I will say people who do their work should get paid. That
is theft not to. But not based on the fantasy that the end of piracy
will make software cheaper.
