I am one of the few over the years who never enjoyed the Civ games even though I tried them numerous times.
But, since I'm a geek, I had to buy the game yesterday and tried it last night.
I do like:
The new graphics engine (I'm a wargamer so that usually doesn't matter much to me) Less cities (I never liked the build city after city after city in the other Civs) City borders keeping out other civs (like this quite a bit) Possibly quicker games (I read someone complaining that you can finish a game in 8 hours...and he was upset about that. Since I like to play strategy games over and over trying different ideas, shorter games are favorable to me. I like Pac War but wish you could finish a game in, at most, a month)
