Yeah, for people who build there own systems, like me, there really hasn't
been any point in getting a DVD drive, since there were so few games that
actually used them exclusively.

There really isn't much of a jump over a cd-rom drive, except for not having
to swap discs when installing.

While in the early days of Cd-rom drives for computers, there were whole new
types of games. Things like 7th Guest and Megarace which in retrospect were
pretty crappy, but at the time used streaming graphics to look amazing. And
various shovelware stuff, like 1000 games or 1000s of UFO photos.

Sure, I guess you could watch DVDs on the computer, but I don't really get
the point of that, when it's much simpler to watch them on a TV and DVD
player
