According to the above announcement ----

You will
(a) need to have formally registered your game at "the Witcher"
website
(b) need a "the Witcher" forum account

From this announcement, it seems that the upgrade will not be made
publicly available via download-mirrors, at least intially.

So, those that have not yet registered the game with the Witcher
website (or have torrented copies without legit CD-keys) look as if
they will initially be out of luck. Of course, Nostromo and friends
will make torrented copies of the patch available as soon as
possible.( The patch may contain code to look for legitimate CD-keys
that might need to be circumvented before distribution of a torrented
version.)

FYI, the only element of the Enhanced Retail edition that will not be
available for download by previous purchasers of the Witcher will be
the short-story ( due to book copyright issues). The making-of DVD,
the two music CDs and the map will all be available as optional
downloads.

The complete Enhanced Edition is available as a new-purchase on Steam
some time today for $39.99 (8.5Gbyte download). Again excluding the
short-story. FYI, the version from www.steampowered.com is the US
"censored" version. Comes with the usual Steam-umbilical
DRM-authentication and "on-line"/"off-line" nonsense. Especially
nonsense in the case of a single-player game like "the Witcher". All
in Valve's interest of course - stops you selling the game or giving
it away to family and friends since you have to tie it to a Steam
account when you install it - unless you want to generate a new
account and new email address just for this game. (Regardless, passing
any Steam game to a third-party is illegal anyway according to the
Steam EULA.)
