Amen. They could at least include a version of the software that's
fully patched and updated. Shit, hey at least you're dload cap lets
you get those kind of files. I've got ADSL2+ so great speeds yea, but
5G+5G (on and off peak) limits means that I most of those demo things
are out of reach anyway.
Stupid quotas :(He, he, I have truly unlimited 512K & regularly d/l 60-70Gb / mth
(have done over 113 max I think :). Check out TPG or iinet for 60Gb+
adsl2+ plans (see whirlpool.net.au - best dsl eval site around for Aus
subs).
Good news: once I wasted another day patching SWG it only got/gets
better after that. The tutorial is aptly short (for vet mmoers) but
surprisingly fun/intense - shit, you get to meet Han, Chewy AND R2D2 &
fly on the MF after blowin away some stormpoopers - what more could yo
uask for? ;). I'm in the Tatooine cantina about to get some missions
from Bobba Fett & start to delve into the game proper tonight. The
forums are typical annoying SOE crap - can't post until you sub. I'll
post back a mini-review after my 2 week run if you/anyone else is
interested in a fresh perspective from a diehard SW fan...?
Regarding the "trial with all recent patches included": if I remember the
patch system for SWG, having all patches included would make the upfront
trial download larger by exactly the same amount you downloaded during
patching (those TRE files). So you would not start playing any sooner
either way.
Which is borked. It hey updates their trial client weekly say &
properly, to contain the latest patches, it wouldn't be an issue &
potential customers would know exactly what they're up for up front.
The other thing that pisses me off no end with mmos is that you don't
get a heavy discount for downloading the game online, given a lot of
them do/could use torrents to distribute the client, with almost no cost
to them (other than the development cost obviously).
and what not. For example, I just got an email from the LotRO guys
that I could download the game for $9.99. Tempting, but again, I don't
like joining an MMO more than a month after it's released... not
enough people to group with.
