I'm tired of this issue, so I can't be bothered with a fuller response.

But fair-play - I don't agree with everything you say, but at least it's a calm and balanced response. I want to be constructively critical of Vista but in the light of so much blind negativity, I find myself moved to defend it.

As I'd hinted at earlier, I'd rather MS perfected Windows 7 and delivered it in 2010/11 rather than knee-jerking and delivering half a product in 2009. But I fear for the worst.

I'm with you there, man... I'm afraid they are going to rush to put out the fire, rather than letting the development mature to get a polished Windows 7 product. And the bitter irony? By the time Windows 7 hits, Vista will probably be what it intended to be from the start, but people STILL won't buy it, because it had such a horrid debut. As I've said, Vista isn't an evil product, it's just had a hard time getting up to par. Hell, it's almost there NOW, but the fire brigade is still hard at work filling buckets because the flames spread too far and burned too long.

You know, in thinking about it, the Vista release debacle (and XP, and ME in their times) is just a prime example of what us gamers have been stuck with repeatedly, but the publishers don't seem to care all that much, and we tend to just take it... Products are rushed to meet deadlines, some specific "sweet sales spot" line in the sand, and even if it's not fully ready, it gets released anyway to pull in all that revenue. Then, we just have to deal with crappy buggy products until patch after patch is released, and it's finally fixed. The difference is, if a game is crap, we don't have to play it - if our OS is screwy, it affects us daily. Kinda makes you wish product quality and customer satisfaction was more important than raking in the dough.
