The ring finger is fine. It frees the first 2 fingers up to hit other
keys while moving. The index finger and second finger are much more
nimble than the last 2 fingers, so it makes sense. All you do with
the "W" key is hold it down, while your other fingers are free to go
where they need to go. I don't see why you "can't believe game-
makers" do this. It's fine. Hopefully you steer with your mouse, so
you're not using you other fingers to navigate. If not, this is
likely your problem.
I can see where you're coming from because you've never changed to using esdf :) I used wasd once upon a time too. Then I got very competitive and required far more hot-keys/macro's with better response times. Esdf allows for that, it takes a while to get used to it, but once you do you can't go back.
The movement range of fingers is far more natural and now you all of a sudden have 2 keys that are very accessible to either side of your primary movement key to bind, as well as opening up A for a quick access key. It's far easier to move your 3rd digit (with index being the first) slightly to the left to push A than it is to move the entire hand across to access G (assuming F is bound when you use wasd).
lol, sounds silly I know, but its a huge thing for those of us that made the change. The keys QWRTAFG are my primary quick access keys. I rarely use 123 because they are harder to get too with the more naturally moving fingers. I wont be activating my account till I hear news on this sort of thing corrected. If I'm only going to play for a month, I want to be able to enjoy it properly after all :p
You might consider that over the top, and I agree it probably is, but I can't even play COD4 using wasd. I have to remap everything otherwise I run around like a goon with the reaction speed of a 90 year old :p
