I presume you tried the Win9x compatibility mode for it?

Yep, tried Win98, WinNT4, and win2K compatibility modes,
they all behaved exactly as the normal mode did...

Has anyone tried to run this under XP ??

I might try it soon, as I remember enjoying both LOL2 and LOL3 quite a
lot, even though they both were disliked by practically everyone (for
reasons unknown to me). Nice action-RPGs with lush graphics (esp. with
3D accelerators), lots to search, good FMV etc.

I didn't care for (nor finish) LOL2 because of the stupid forced
shape-changing that you couldn't turn off at will, you had to just
wander around and try to avoid anything that you couldn't handle in a
given form, until it went away on its own. However, I *loved* LOL3,
and was really looking forward to playing it again!!
