as I need to feel immersed. The reduced FOV is not a problem at all.
Some time ago I did an experiment, I walked around with my hands to
the sides of my eyes reducing my FOV, and I still firmly believed I
was myself :)
I'll never understand why RPG developers don't implement simple point-of-view changing like flight sim developers have done for more than a decade now. A set up to "look left 45 degrees" and "look right 45 degrees" using the "Q" and "E" keys would solve a host of FOV problems. The could even let each player set his preference, 30, 45, 60 or 90 degrees. Why not?
PS: I'm with you. 1st person view is *so* much more immersive for me that it isn't even a close call.
They do. Most now include the option of a 'free camera' or vanity view with
the left-click-hold button, especially useful while running or approaching
blind corners. You can look around 360degrees in all directions, which beats
having several keys wasted on preset angles imo, or even using a hat switch
function, which you don't have because let's face it, who in their right
mind would use a flightstick to play a mmo? :-/
Yeah, I've seen that but IMO that's neither as convenient nor as easy to use as hot-keys. We've already got our hands parked on the W-A-S-D keys; we turn with the mouse and sidle left or right with the A-D keys. What function do we need on the Q and E keys? I suppose shooters might require keys to lean around corners, but I prefer slashers where leaning is pointless. And as for immersion (or realism? <g>), what sort of creature can swivel its head 360 degrees? I'd prefer simple straightforward Look-Left Look-Right keys. YMMV
