Most MMORPGs give the player the *option* of first-person view, but
since it reduces playability, there is always a social pressure
against it. What I'm looking for is a more freely-immersive game.

I don't have a problem with MMOs that have the option of 1st or 3rd,
what I do have a problem with is those that are entirely designed for
3rd person view and just add a sorry 1st person view just so they can
say they support it.
Everquest 1 was designed for 1st person view.

Even the computer games 'designed for 1st person view' that do it best only
give what I imagine to be the perspective of someone with advaanced
glaucoma, and even those games are limited to flight sims with highly
advanced view systems. I've never seen a CRPG of any kind that even comes
close, not even one supposedly designed to be so.

It takes a *lot* of imagination to have the kind of "immersion" I think
you're talking about for any kind of computer/vid game, and I doubt any of
us will still be alive when it's finally achieved--if it ever is.

First post in almost 4mths CB. Glad to have ya back ya old fart! ;)

Fwiw, the place has lacked that certain reality-check dryness you bring so
well - all we've had w/o you is the usual over-intellectualising i.e. mental
masturbation, complete vitriol & mother name calling, continued trolling,
snideness & general apathy...oh, & a couple posts about games I think :)

The biggest news you've missed <G> is that I'm actually playing WoW, though
on a seemingly asshat-free Aus PvE server (Kha'Goroth) & actually enjoying
the game (got an undead warlock chick to 20th now). Of course, I haven't
given Buzzard a cent of my own money & still have $100 as a Christmas gift I
can spend on game cards, so my conscience is clear so far >8^D

I hear good things about this latest LOTRO patch & facelift, though I'm not
sure either of our rigs can do it justice (AMD3400+, 2Gb DDR400, X1950Pro
here, similar to yours I believe).

Don't be a stranger ya ***, or I'll drop in when you least expect it,
most likely in the next year or two when I finally make that o'seas ski trip
(probably Steamboat, Colorado at this stage). Be very scared <EG>.
