I bought the first 4
Ender's Game
Speaker For the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the Mind
The latter 3 aren't as good as the first, but I still enjoyed them and
have re-read them.
I completely skipped the "Shadow" ones that came later though.
The Tales of Alvin Maker were kinda neat too, but won't appeal to
everyone.
Interesting, I may give the later books a second go.. I just remember
that the second one had some really touchy feely thing about some
endagered species of some kind of pigmen or something (maybe it's
just my conservative nature, it seemed so politically correct, and
like an allegory for how we treat lesser species). This was of course
nothing like what Ender's Game was about.. and with a movie coming
out, I won't go into specifics as to not spoil for people who don't
know about it (my original comment in this thread already hints at
it loudly).
I was also at the time first introduced to the Asimov collection, and
spent alot of time reading (and re-reading) all of the Robot and
Foundation stories (I LOVED THESE BOOKS), as well as other
classics from Bradbury and Clarke (Mote in God's Eye was pretty
cool). I also really enjoyed the "Gateway" books (Pohl). I thought
all of them were very good. Rendevous with Rama is also quite good.
I'm sure I'm missing about a dozen others, I was reading quite a bit
of Sci Fi in those days. My dad had an extensive collection of
paperbacks/hardcovers he gave me around that time.
