| If you're using Vista, then no one can help you. Welcome to the frontier
of
| new-age computing & pc games playing & get used to rebooting...a lot! ;-p
|
| Seriously, drivers, drivers, drivers - all up to date? Tried the Omega
| drivers instead of NV ones? I did in place of my ATI drivers & the diff
was
| amazing. Otherwise, this game is worth setting up an XP dual-boot, but
good
| luck with it & Vi$ta chasing their own boot sector tails around the block.

Yah, I can highly recommend avoiding the Vista/XP dual boot if you can...
Or use a utility (like Acronis Disk Director) that will handle the dual boot
system for you, instead of relying on MS to do proper housekeeping... I've
had plenty of experience with XP/Vista systems that work fine, but my new
notebook came with Vista and the first thing I did was pop XP on that
sucker... Put it on a separate partition so that it was completely
isolated, as I had experienced some of the evils of Vista when installing on
the same drive as XP... Everything was great for about 2 weeks, with only
an occasional blip or oddity, then WHAM the damn thing decided to jump off a
bridge and corrupt its master boot record. Luckily I know a few things, and
have some great disk utilities around, so I was able to figure out what was
going on... Ended up saying screw it, so now when I boot up I have a choice
of Windows XP Professional and, ummm, Windows XP Professional! Ah well, it
worked out, put all my programming stuff on the XP formerly known as Vista
side, and all my fun and games on the second partition.
And in the meantime, 2 of my colleagues and a friend have all fallen prey to
the dreaded "Vista ate my MBR" issue... Apparently MS is fine with you
going from XP to Vista, but they could not imagine in their perfect world
that anyone would want to go backwards from their shiny new bloatware OS to
something more stable, faster and reliable like XP... Why test what'll
never happen, right?
