Re: Which online RPG?

I'd like to know opinions about LOTRO, Guild Wars, and CoH/CoV.

CoX was fun, but after about 25 levels or so can easily turn into a grind,
mostly because it's possible to run out of quests and you have to resort to
mole-whacking, but for quite a while you can play with character creation,
since it's good enough to almost be a game in itself.

I found GW to be more of a diabolical puzzle fest that often requires
repeating quests until you find the right "trick" or combination of skills
you need to take with you--or more simply I guess, just reading a guide or
playing with someone who's already read a guide. Not much about what an
RPG's about in my book, but whatever cranks your tractor.

I beta tested LotRO and enjoy it as much now as I did after that first week,
now going on 10 months or so ago. It has it's share of idiots (who I've
found in *much* fewer numbers than any other MMO I've played) and suffers
from gold-selling spammers, but that's about the only real negatives I can
give it. Well, unless you consider not being able to solo *every* single
quest in it a negative.

You will occasionally need to join groups or a "fellowship", and hooking up
with at least a moderately sized, active kinship (guild) fairly early on is
also a big help. No other MMO I've played has given me anywhere near the
enjoyment LotRO has. (A caveat--being a Tolkien fan increases the enjoyment
factor greatly, and if you're not, then a lot of what I've enjoyed about the
game will likely completely miss the mark.
