As long as we insist on being able to run games on whatever [even within
a "limited" range] hardware and software we choose, we agree to a social
compact which requires us to put more effort into running and playing
our games than is required of console kiddies. The *price* of our
Freedom is, to some extent, to be willing to *pay* for it. And since we
don't appear to be willing to pay *more $*, we must perform ourselves
the work that 'more $' would have bought the publishers.

I'm willing to deal with bugs I can patch as the price for the *ability*
to mod and patch my games.
