See? I'm of the quite contrary opinion. I like NPCs in my RPGs with
personalities, with them chatting along, loving/hating each other and
loving/hating things that I do if they don't follow their beliefs. I
loved BG and BG2, I couldn't stand NWN as solo. Guess I could have
liked it online if I played with other people, but I never tried.
Same here, dunno why either, which is weird. It wasn't the
npc's for me though. I usually know exactly why I do or do not like a
game, but w/NWN I could never figure out what it was I didn't really
like, I just coudln't get into it, and not for lack of trying.
Something about the engine itself I think. It certainly seems like a
game I should like, I just don't. hehe

I had exactly the same problem as Leo. Loved BG1 and 2, just couldn't
force myself to like NWN, don't know why. Partly I just don't like D&D
3.x - I grew up on 1st edition, and preferred RPGs based on 1st or 2nd
(in fact I prefer RPGs not based on D&D at all, but prefer 1st/2nd to
3.x). It's the "take a level of any class you like" which spoils it
for me, though I quite like the feats system.
Partly the OC was JUST SO AWFUL. To say that it's "so-so" is a
colossal understatement, it is truly the worst CRPG experience I can
remember. Akalabeth was more engrossing (well actually that's a tiny
exaggeration but you get my point).
One day I will dig it out and try the SoU/HotU adventures, and all the
rest.
