The point here was (of all the many sins of Buzzard, which I won't go into
again) that you only need compare the release of WoW to the release of
LOTRO
to see how a professional,
give-a-***-about-their-customers-rather-than-just-money company did it
*right*!
LoTRO had WoW as a guide line don't forget. It's one of the few advantages
of being the new kid on the block, you get to learn from your predecessors
mistakes before making them yourself.
And they had almost 10 yrs of BNet as a proof-of-concept to get it
right & still completely fucked it up. At best they needed to sack their
pathetic capacity planners. More likely just the greed is god syndrome -
keep takin subs even if you KNOW you can't service the numbers.
I think you don't understand how the WoW servers work Nos. Every time a new
server goes up people flock to them, its the whole "grass is greener on the
other side" syndrome. This causes queues, lag, and all that other irritating
stuff. What inevitably happens is that the vast majority of those "server
chasers" go back to their old characters. Some do, some don't. And the
server populations slowly disperse and spread out.
If Blizzard's capacity planners took the first month of each server as a
guide to how many servers they should release, they would be left with
unsustainably high fixed costs which are not necessary. There are already a
plethora of servers with low populations out there.
You're getting shitty at a company for operating as it should, as a profit
maximising business. Blizzard have constantly released high quality games.
From Warcraft: Humans and Orcs to WoW. I am fully expecting Starcraft 2 tofollow the usual formulae and to be equally successful. Their only sin is
being too successful it seems.
And in the
scheme of things, this is just one of their minor sins compared to how
they
treated the majority of their BNet user base over a number of years i.e.
with ignorance, disdain & utter contempt. Game over.
I never played on Battlenet, though I did play D2 to death with friends via
LAN's. So I can't comment on their conduct with those servers. But wasn't
BNet a free service? You're pissy with a company for offering a free service
which greatly added to the value you received from one of their games?
I'm not trying to get into a *** flinging match with you Nos, but your
intense dislike of Blizzard seems irrational some times. Did a Blizzard
employee fly here to Aus and personally give you a wet-willy or something?
;)
Ceo-
