Re: LotRO - To Voice Chat or Not to Voice Chat

Having to hit that all the time would sort of defeat the purpose of voice
chat, I think.

What I'd do I think would be to get some app that would mute the mic and
then have it activated by a mouse key, so I could mute at will without
thinking about it.

LOTRO already allows you to map any key to push-to-talk, or just have voice
always on with a mike threshold you can set. I also have a mute slider
switch on my headset cord about 2 feet down the cord for easy muting. What
else is needed?

The real reason, well, the more real reason is that I use
some expensive cordless headphones that obviously don't have a mic and I
don't want to disturb others in the middle of the night with my talking.

There's a very good point - waking up the others.

For me it's music - I always have music playing and using a team speak
thing means everyone else has to listen to it too.

And since I have severely eclectic tastes in music, that's guaranteed to
annoy someone.

I imagine that the mp3/cd music overlaying your sound will multiplex with
the voice chat just find. Ppl in-game will only hear what comes in your
mike, not out your headphones ;).

I don't listen to music via headphones, most of the time it's a cd-payer
outputting to speakers on each side of the desk, so it would get picked
up by a mic.

I'm someone that's put the Exploited, Tori Amos, Rob Zombie, Bjork,
Black Sabbath and the Spice Girls in the same playlist. (Was given thee
SG .mp3s, and while I don't think much of the music, they do have nice
voices - hell I'll even listen to country music if the gal singing has a
nice voice.)

That's an...errr...interesting mix there X <whistles looking up in the air>

Like I said, eclectic tastes.

I can easily go from listening to Rammstein, to listening to the
Hollies, then the Dead Kennedys then The Dufay Collective's "A Dance in
the Garden of Mirth."

Teamspeak is a really bad idea for me. :)

Heh. Sok if you're playing a sci-fi mmo probably ;)

Even that would get wierd; "A Dance in the Garden of Mirth" is medieval
instrumental music.
